Victims receive a message with a multi-factor authentication (MFA) code and a phone number to call if they didn’t request it. It appears someone is trying to access your email or social media account—but it’s actually a scam.
The message is part of a phishing attack known as “smishing.” If you call the number, you won’t reach customer support—you’ll be talking to a scammer trying to steal your login info.
To protect yourself:
– Be suspicious of unexpected or urgent texts.
– Don’t trust messages from unfamiliar numbers.
– Always contact companies through their official websites.
